Ground breaking offshore trips promoted by North Sea Pelagics involving White Beaked Dolphin Research
BBC Wildlife Magazine article
Newcastle Chronicle article
North Sea Pelagics exists to promote pelagic wildlife trips off the Northumberland coast.
North Sea Pelagics highlights trips that focus on locating cetaceans & pelagic birds offshore whilst ensuring that they are not disturbed by activities.
North Sea Pelagics showcases the skills of veteran boat operator William Shiel http://www.farne-islands.com/ and his trusted skipper Alan Leatham.
With expedition trips upto 20 miles offshore trips run by William Shiel use a 10m commercial RHIB, built new in 2010 (MCA reg cat 2 vessel), with twin 200hp outboards. This craft allows us unprecedented access to offshore sites.
These trips are genuinely expeditionary and information obtained during these trips will be reported back directly to bodies including Newcastle University School of Marine Science, MMO, Sea Mammal Reasearch Unit and various conservation groups in support of Marine Conservation Zones.
Although the focus of these pelagic trips is to locate and observe white beaked dolphin they also provide excellent opportunities to observe pelagic birds and other cetaceans (eg Minke whales).
